Vladimír Ossif is one of the core artists of Zahorian & Van Espen. In its Bratislava and Prague spaces, the gallery has already presented his work in six solo exhibitions, and this year alone it has showcased him abroad three times: with the solo exhibition Los Techos de la Habana in Havana itself, in a group show at Atlas Gallery in Paris, and at the art fairs Art Rotterdam and Art Cologne. This range of events signals the continuing interest of audiences in Ossif’s work, which always surprises with its authenticity and suggestiveness.

The artist’s creative credo is vitality. Without hesitation and with unceasing energy, he approaches large canvases, onto which he applies his first visions, only to paint new shapes over them. The pastose fields often overlap, planes in bold color impulses collide, while above them hover magnified fragments of outline lines of unreadable objects. From the background, in tentative contours, emerge segments of modern and postmodern architecture, introducing a sense of distance into the paintings. His layered compositions are rich and open. In his finished works, the artist acknowledges all planes, all layers, all sediments of experience from the painting process itself. From the passion of living through painting. Despite the variety of elements he places into his canvases, they do not appear chaotic, even as they acknowledge the chaos of the world we live in. With an exceptional sensitivity to the suggestiveness of colors and their encounters, and with a sense for unobtrusive geometry of unknown forms, he organizes the pictorial surface into a balanced whole.

Beyond this world—rich in contradictory impulses and experiences—that has characterized his painting for years, Ossif now reveals another, hitherto unknown to his viewers. Yet he is equally at home in it. This world is characterized by restraint, expressed in the small format of his compositions. Here he cannot employ everything that stirs in his imagination. He must choose from his ideas, let many of them go. Geometry now rules these paintings. But not a dry, abstract geometry—rather one observed from life. From the life of the city. The artist admits that he feels good in it, that it is his world. He draws inspiration from the architecture of houses: the diagonals of their roofs, the arches of entrances, the sharpness of corners, and the silence of walls. Even fragments of walls are important to him. He reveals this subtly, through the irregularity of their shapes and the handwriting of his brushwork—thickly applied or casual, but never impersonal. And the colors. Their unexpected, fervent, and urgent encounters. These, too, are present in the small compositions.

Both of Vladimír Ossif’s worlds share a common denominator: the joy of creation, which he generously offers to us viewers as positive energy. He shares his uniqueness, the unmistakable mark of his creativity.

Všetky vystavené diela namaľoval umelec v roku 2025 a nedal im zatiaľ konkrétne názvy, sú teda Bez názvu.

Vladimír Ossif, (*1954, Prešov). 1974-1980 Vysoká škola výtvarných umení, Bratislava. 1982 emigrácia z Československa do Francúzska. 1983-1985 Ecole nationale supérieure des arts decoratifs, Paríž. 1984-1986 rezident Cité internationale des arts, Paríž, 1989-1991 rezident Casa Velasquez, Madrid. 1991 ateliér v Ortaffe (oblasť Katalánska v južnom Francúzsku). 1995-1996 pobyt v New Yorku. 0d 1997 ateliér v Bratislave. 2008-2011 tvorivé pobyty v New Yorku a v Paríži. Od 2014 ateliér v Bratislave aj v Havane.

Vladimír Ossif patrí ku kmeňovým autorom Zahorian & Van Espen. V svojich bratislavských a pražských priestoroch doposiaľ predstavila jeho diela na šiestich samostatných výstavách, pričom len v tomto roku ich prezentovala trikrát aj v zahraničí: na individuálnej výstave Los Techos de la Habana v samotnej Havane, na skupinovej výstave v Atlas galérii v Paríži, tiež na veľtrhoch Art Rotterdam a Art Cologne. Výpočet udalostí signalizuje neutíchajúci záujem publika o tvorbu Vladimíra Ossifa, ktorá vždy prekvapí svojou autenticitou a sugestivitou zároveň.

Autorovým tvorivým krédom je vitalita. Bez rozpakov, s neutíchajúcou energiou maliarskeho gesta pristupuje k veľkorozmerným plátnam, na ktoré nanáša prvé predstavy, aby cez ne vzápätí namaľoval iné tvary. Ich pastózne polia sa často prekrývajú, plochy v razantných farebných impulzoch do seba narážajú, ponad ne sa vznášajú geometrické zväčšeniny útržkov obrysových línií nečitateľných predmetov. Z pozadia sa v náznakových linkách vynárajú segmenty modernej a postmodernej architektúry, ktoré vnášajú do obrazov dimenziu diaľky. Vrstvenie kompozícií je bohaté a otvorené. V dokončených dielach umelec priznáva všetky roviny, všetky nánosy, všetky sedimenty zážitkov z procesu svojho maľovania. Zo zanietenia žiť maľbou. Napriek tomu rozmanitému, čo do svojich obrazov vkladá, nepôsobia chaoticky, hoci priznávajú chaos sveta, v ktorom žijeme. S výnimočným citom pre sugestivitu farieb a ich stretnutí, so zmyslom pre nevtieravú geometriu neznámych tvarov, organizuje obrazovú plochu do vyváženého celku.

Okrem toho sveta, bohatého na protirečivé podnety a zážitky, ktorý už viac rokov charakterizuje maliarsky prejav Vladimíra Ossifa, umelec tentoraz odhaľuje aj svet ďalší, divákmi zatiaľ nepoznaný. Je v ňom však rovnako doma. Charakterizuje ho zdržanlivosť, veď zvolil malý formát kompozícií. Nemôže uplatniť všetko, čo mu víri v predstavách. Zo svojich nápadov musí vybrať, odpustiť si mnohé z nich. Obrazom teraz vládne geometria. Ale nie suchá, abstraktná, ale odpozorovaná zo života. Zo života mesta. Umelec priznáva, že sa v ňom cíti dobre, že je jeho svetom. Inšpiroval sa architektúrou domov, diagonálami ich striech, oblúkmi vstupov, ostrosťou nároží a tichom stien. Lebo aj segmenty stien sú pre neho dôležité. Dáva to nenápadne najavo nepravidelnosťou ich tvarov aj rukopisom maľby. Pastóznym alebo nedbalým. Nikdy však nie neosobným. A farby. Ich nečakané, vrúcne a naliehavé stretnutia. Tie ani v malých kompozíciách nechýbajú.

Obidva svety Vladimíra Ossifa majú spoločného menovateľa. Radosť z tvorby, ktorú veľkoryso ako pozitívnu energiu rozdáva nám divákom. Rozdáva svoju jedinečnosť nezameniteľnej kreativity.
